Professional Mini Digger Hire in West Cornwall
Our two 2-tonne mini diggers are built for gardens, narrow access and smaller sites, where a full-size machine cannot reach. Hire one with a driver from our team, or ask us about self-drive, then collect it on a suitable trailer or have it delivered to your door.

Mini digger hire is the hire of a compact tracked excavator, in our case a 2-tonne machine, for digging work on sites where space and access are limited. It handles footings, trenches, soakaways and garden levelling that are too much for a spade and too tight for a full-size excavator.
Luna Maintenance Ltd hires its minis two ways. Digger hire with driver puts one of our CPCS-carded operators on the machine, so the dig is carried out for you. For hirers with their own experience, ask us about self-drive and we will talk through what your job needs.
Either way, the machine comes from a groundworks contractor that uses the same minis on its own jobs, from arena builds to garden redesigns.

What Our Mini Diggers Are Hired For
Trenches and service runs
Trenches for drainage, ducting, water and power, dug to line and depth, with the spoil kept where it will not block the route.
Footings for walls, garages and outbuildings
Footing trenches cut to the width and depth your drawings set, ready for concrete.
Soakaways and drainage
Soakaway pits and drain runs dug to the falls that make them work. For a fully installed system, see our drainage service.
Garden levelling and patio digs
Reducing a sloping garden to workable levels, cutting in terraces and digging out for a new patio, path or base.
Tight-access farm and yard work
Inside sheds, around stables and in small yards, where a larger machine would struggle to turn.
Clearing roots, stumps and old surfaces
Lifting stumps, root plates, old bases and buried rubble once the topsoil is off.
When the job outgrows a mini
For bigger digs, our 14-tonne excavator and our wheeled digger are available on plant hire, operated or self-drive.
Our Mini Diggers at Work
Our 2-tonne minis also work on our own projects across West Cornwall, from shaping the base of a new horse arena to digging drainage runs and preparing garden redesigns. The photographs on this site show our own machines on our own jobs.

Why a 2-Tonne Mini Digger Works for Your Site
Work where a big machine cannot goA 2-tonne mini reaches back gardens, courtyards and narrow farm entrances, so the dig happens without taking down a wall or a fence to get a machine in.
A dig that goes in onceWith a driver from our team, line, level and depth are right the first time, which keeps the job moving and avoids digging the same ground twice.
A lighter touch on your propertyA compact machine puts far less weight on lawns, paths and drives than a full-size excavator, so there is less to put right afterwards.
The whole dig in one bookingOur 1-tonne dumper can move the spoil alongside the digger, and on an operated job we can arrange muck away as part of the work.
How Mini Digger Hire Works, Step by Step
Hiring a mini digger from us follows five steps:
Describe the dig.
Call 07460 077745 or send the form with what you need dug, roughly how deep, and the width of the narrowest point the machine has to pass through.
Check the access.
We confirm the machine will reach the work and, where it helps, visit the site at no charge.
Agree it in writing.
Your written quote sets out the machine, with or without a driver, the hire period and delivery or collection.
Take delivery or collect.
Collect on a suitable trailer, or we deliver the mini digger and unload it as close to the work as the access allows.
Dig, finish and return.
The work is carried out, the site is left tidy, and the machine comes back to us at the end of the hire.
Why Choose Luna Maintenance for Mini Digger Hire
Much of the work a mini digger does around a home answers to the Building Regulations. Approved Document A covers structure, and the depth a footing needs depends on the bearing ground, nearby trees and the load it will carry. Approved Document H covers drainage, from the falls on a pipe run to where surface water can go. A driver who digs footings and drainage on our own groundworks jobs brings that knowledge to your site.
A groundworks team behind every hire. The minis are part of a working contractor's fleet, so advice on the dig comes from people who carry out the same work.
Accredited and insured. CHAS accredited, a Constructionline Gold member and fully insured.
Bigger machines on hand. If the job grows, the 14-tonne excavator and the wheeled digger are already ours.
Your Contractor: Ross Kitto
Ross Kitto, director of Luna Maintenance, has 29 years in the trade and formed the company in 2023. He leads a close team of five, and the operators who drive our minis on hire are the same people who run them on our own jobs.
The team is CPCS-carded on plant and confined space trained, so every hire is backed by people who dig footings and drainage for a living.
“We put the customer first, so before any machine goes out we make sure it is the right one for your site and your job,”
says Ross Kitto, director of Luna Maintenance Ltd.
