Expert Groundworks and Driveways in Falmouth

Groundworks in Falmouth for a town that climbs from its harbour: driveways, patios, retaining walls and drainage, with plant hire and farm work across the parishes around it. Every surface we finish sits on a base we have cut, drained and levelled ourselves.

Groundworks in Falmouth, Penryn and the Carrick Roads Shore

Falmouth rises steeply from its harbour, and the gradient shapes nearly every project in the town. Streets above Gyllyngvase and Swanpool are stepped into the hillside, gardens climb in terraces, and many drives have been cut straight out of the bank. The rock underneath is largely slate, firm to dig, but every new cutting needs a plan for the water that runs down it.

From Hayle we head east on the A30 and take the A393 through Ponsanooth into Penryn, where older terraces hide long, narrow gardens behind them and the university's Penryn Campus sits on the edge of town. Beyond Budock Water and out towards Constantine, the houses give way to farmland running down to the Helford.

So the work here follows the slope. Retaining walls hold back stepped gardens, parking bays are levelled into the bank, drainage keeps run-off on your own land, and patios are set to fall away from the house. Falmouth has many let and holiday homes, so we agree the timing of each stage with you when we quote.

Our Groundworks, Driveway and Plant Hire Services in Falmouth

Driveways and Landscaping

Driveways and gardens on the slope. Driveways start with the levels: resin driveways from Rhino resin trained installers, tarmac driveways for steeper drives, and concrete driveways where a hard-wearing slab suits. Retaining walls make room for them, while hard landscaping, patios and fencing finish the terraced garden.

Groundworks and Drainage

Groundworks under the town. Groundworks on tight Penryn plots, drainage that keeps hillside run-off away from neighbouring gardens, concrete works for garden rooms and workshops, setting out from your drawings, and tree removal and land clearance for overgrown banks.

Plant Hire

Machines for hire. Plant hire operated or self-drive, mini digger hire with our 2-tonne machines for terraces reached by a side path, and chipper hire once the clearance is done.

Agricultural and Equestrian Groundworks

Farms beyond the town. Inland towards Constantine we take on agricultural buildings, horse arena construction, farm concrete yards, agricultural groundworks, silage clamps and slurry stores, and farm track construction.

Why Falmouth Chooses Luna Maintenance

Levels set from the machineOur 14-tonne excavator carries iDig machine control, so cuts into a bank and the falls on a drive are set accurately from the start. On narrower plots, the 2-tonne minis work to the same levels, checked as the dig goes down.

One team from bank to finishThe people who excavate your garden are the people who build the wall and lay the surface, led by Ross Kitto with 29 years in the trade.

Questions About Groundworks in Falmouth

Do you work in Falmouth?
Yes. Falmouth and Penryn are both inside our area, together with Mylor, Flushing, Budock Water, Mawnan Smith and the farms around Constantine. We take on groundworks, driveways, patios, retaining walls and plant hire across the town, and farm and equestrian projects in the parishes around it. If your address sits just beyond those villages, call and ask.
Can you build on waterfront and sloping sites?
Yes. On a slope the work starts with levels and retaining, and the drainage behind any wall matters as much as the wall itself. Near the water we also look at run-off, ground water and how close the work sits to the shore. We assess all of this at the free site visit and set the approach out in your written quote.
Do you lay driveways and patios in Falmouth?
Yes. We lay resin bound, tarmac and concrete driveways and porcelain patios, all on a sub-base we excavate and prepare ourselves. Many Falmouth drives are steep, so the falls and drainage are designed first. A new front driveway over 5 square metres needs planning permission unless it is permeable or drains to a border or soakaway.
Can I hire plant in Falmouth?
Yes. Our plant is available operated, with one of our team at the controls, or on self-drive hire. You can collect a machine on a suitable trailer or we can deliver it to your site. The 2-tonne mini diggers suit terraced Falmouth gardens, and the larger machines suit open sites and farm work around the town.
