Groundworks in Wadebridge and the Camel Valley

Wadebridge grew up around its old bridge over the River Camel, and the farmland that surrounds it is shaped by the river. Along the valley floor the ground is low, soft and slow to drain, with meadows that stay wet well into spring. Higher up, towards St Breock Downs and St Kew, the fields sit on firmer ground over slate, where the challenge is run-off rather than standing water.

We come up from Hayle along the A30 and then the A39, past the Royal Cornwall Showground on the western edge of the town. Around Egloshayle, St Mabyn and Sladesbridge the lanes serve dairy, beef and mixed farms, and the Camel Trail follows the river through the middle of it all.

The River Camel is a Special Area of Conservation, so drainage, yard run-off and slurry storage near the water deserve care. Our focus here is agricultural: building pads and frames, yards, tracks, clamps and stores, and the field and yard drainage that holds a valley farm together. Because Wadebridge is our furthest town, we focus there on substantial, complete projects.

Our Agricultural, Groundworks and Hire Services in Wadebridge

Agricultural and Equestrian Groundworks

Farm projects first. Farm projects lead what we offer around Wadebridge: agricultural buildings, agricultural groundworks, farm concrete yards, silage clamps and slurry stores, farm track construction and horse arena construction for equestrian yards.

Groundworks and Drainage

Groundworks packages. Larger groundworks for self-build plots and new outbuildings, drainage for wet valley ground, concrete works for workshop floors, setting out to the engineer's levels, and tree removal and land clearance where a site needs opening up.

Plant Hire

Plant on longer jobs. Plant hire operated or self-drive, including the Valtra 250hp tractor and dump trailer for moving stone and spoil. Mini digger hire suits tighter farmyards, and chipper hire follows hedge and boundary clearance.

Driveways and Landscaping

Homes in the valley. Alongside the farm work we lay driveways as resin driveways, tarmac driveways or concrete driveways, and build hard landscaping, patios, retaining walls and fencing.

Questions About Groundworks in Wadebridge

Do you work in Wadebridge?
Yes. Wadebridge is the northern edge of our area, and we take on projects in the town and across the Camel valley, including Egloshayle, St Breock, St Kew and St Mabyn. Our focus there is agricultural, from farm buildings and yards to tracks and drainage, along with larger groundworks schemes. Call to talk through what you are planning.
How do you drain Camel valley farmland?
It depends on where the water comes from. On the valley floor we use land drains and outfalls to lower the water table around buildings and gateways. On the slopes we intercept run-off with cut-off drains before it reaches the yard. Near the River Camel, clean water and dirty water are kept apart, so nothing contaminated reaches the watercourse.
Do you build agricultural buildings near Wadebridge?
Yes. We carry out the groundworks, pour the concrete pad and erect the steel frame for farm buildings around Wadebridge. Many new farm buildings on holdings of 5 hectares or more fall under agricultural permitted development and need prior approval from Cornwall Council rather than full planning, so it is worth checking with the council early.
Do you travel this far for every job?
Wadebridge is the furthest town we cover, so we travel there for the right project. That usually means farm buildings, yards, clamps, tracks and larger groundworks schemes. If your job is smaller, call us anyway and describe it, and we will tell you plainly whether it is one we can take on. The site visit and quote are free either way.

Planning a Farm Project Near Wadebridge?
