Specialist Farm and Groundworks Contractors Around Land's End

Groundworks at Land's End, the very tip of Cornwall, where the land is open, wind-scoured and given over to farming. For the holdings around Sennen, St Buryan and Porthcurno we build farm tracks, steel-frame buildings, concrete yards and drainage that stand up to Atlantic weather, bringing our own plant out on our own trailers.

Groundworks on the Land's End Peninsula

Beyond Crows-an-Wra the A30 runs out across a high, almost treeless granite plateau until it stops at the cliffs. The peninsula farms are worked in small fields bounded by stone-faced Cornish hedges, with soil that is often thin over solid granite and exposure that few places in England can match. Gales off the Atlantic arrive with nothing to slow them.

That environment sets the specification. Footings for a farm building may need breaking into rock, while the structure itself must be designed by its engineer for the wind loading of an open site. Tracks need a firm stone build-up and cross drains, because heavy rain on a bare plateau runs fast. Concrete yards are laid with falls that clear water quickly, and fencing is set deep into hard ground.

Around the farms lie St Buryan and its church tower, the Merry Maidens stone circle on the B3315, Porthcurno and the Minack Theatre, and Sennen Cove above Whitesand Bay.

We reach the peninsula from Hayle along the A30 through Penzance, and take the B3315 for the farms on the south coast towards Porthcurno and Treen.

Our Farm and Groundworks Services Around Land's End

Agricultural and Equestrian Groundworks

Farm and equestrian projects. Farm track construction opens up fields reached by long lanes, and agricultural buildings give stock and machinery shelter from the gales. Add horse arena construction, silage clamps and slurry stores, farm concrete yards and the wider agricultural groundworks hub.

Plant Hire

Plant brought to you. For remote holdings, plant hire comes delivered, operated or self-drive, and includes the Valtra tractor with its dump trailer for hauling stone. Mini digger hire suits work inside farmyards and gardens, and chipper hire clears hedge cuttings and storm-felled trees.

Groundworks and Drainage

Rock, water and foundations. Hard granite makes groundworks a job for breakers and accurate setting out. Drainage covers land drains and septic tanks for properties off the mains, concrete works provide bases and slabs, and tree removal and land clearance restores overgrown ground.

Driveways and Landscaping

Homes facing the weather. Granite houses in the villages gain patios, hard landscaping, retaining walls and stock-proof fencing, with driveways in hard-wearing concrete, tarmac or resin.

Land's End Groundworks Questions

Do you work around Land's End?
Yes. We cover the whole peninsula, including Sennen, Sennen Cove, St Buryan, Crows-an-Wra, Porthcurno and St Levan. Land's End is at the western limit of our area, so we take on larger projects here, especially farm buildings, tracks, yards and drainage, and plan each one as its own dedicated job. Ring us to discuss the plans.
How do you build on exposed granite farmland?
We plan for the rock and the wind. Where granite sits close to the surface, the excavator's breakers take footings down to a sound, level bearing, and the building's frame is engineered for an open, exposed site. Tracks and yards are built with drainage and falls that clear heavy rain fast, so the surface stays firm through a West Penwith winter.
Do you build farm tracks and farm buildings near Land's End?
Yes, both are central to our work on the peninsula. Tracks are built from graded hardcore on a separating layer, cambered and cross-drained. For farm buildings we prepare the ground, cast the concrete pad and put up the steel frame. Many new farm buildings and tracks need prior approval from Cornwall Council under permitted development, so check that early.
Can you bring plant out to remote sites?
Yes. We deliver our own machinery to remote farms and properties, and access is checked at the site visit so the route and the turning space suit the trailer. Plant is available with one of our operators or on self-drive hire, and you can also collect a machine yourself on a suitable trailer if you prefer.
