Specialist Groundworks Contractors in Carbis Bay

Hillside gardens, holiday lets and lanes barely wider than a van: in Carbis Bay the planning starts long before a machine arrives. We deliver groundworks, retaining walls, driveways and patios on these slopes, with every level resolved and every load sequenced around the access.

Groundworks on the Carbis Bay Hillside

Carbis Bay is built on a gradient. Homes step down from the A3074 towards the beach in tiers, the branch railway clings to the slope above Porthkidney Sands, and Steeple Lane climbs inland past Steeple Woods towards Knill's Monument on Worvas Hill. Flat ground is rare, and most gardens here have been cut, filled or terraced at some point.

That shapes the work in three ways. Levels come first, so a new driveway or patio often begins with excavation and a retaining wall rather than a surface. Rock can sit close beneath the topsoil, which is where our breakers earn their place. And on a slope, every square metre of hard surface sends water somewhere, so the falls, channels and soakaways are drawn up before anything is laid.

Many properties are second homes or holiday lets, where the owner may be away and the letting calendar matters as much as the specification.

We reach Carbis Bay from Hayle along the A3074 through Lelant, the same road that carries on into St Ives, with deliveries planned so lorries never block a lane.

Our Landscaping, Driveway and Groundworks Services in Carbis Bay

Driveways and Landscaping

Gardens, walls and surfaces. Terraced plots rely on retaining walls with drainage behind them, and hard landscaping turns awkward levels into usable space. Sea-view patios are laid with falls running away from the house, fencing is set for the exposure, and frontages are rebuilt as driveways in tarmac, concrete or permeable resin.

Plant Hire

Machines that fit the access. Our two 2-tonne minis make mini digger hire the natural choice for gardens reached by steps or side passages. Larger jobs draw on wider plant hire, operated or self-drive, and chipper hire clears overgrown banks.

Groundworks and Drainage

What sits beneath. Groundworks and setting out for new builds and outbuildings, concrete works for bases, drainage including soakaways, and tree removal and land clearance for plots reclaimed from scrub.

Agricultural and Equestrian Groundworks

Land and livestock. For the farms and paddocks inland: silage clamps and slurry stores, farm concrete yards, farm track construction, agricultural buildings, agricultural groundworks and horse arena construction.

Carbis Bay Groundworks Questions

Do you work in Carbis Bay?
Yes, regularly. Carbis Bay sits close to our Hayle base, and we cover the whole village, from the roads above the beach and the slopes towards Steeple Woods to Lelant and Porthkidney. The work here is mostly retaining walls, driveways, patios, drainage and groundworks for new builds, along with paddock and smallholding projects on the higher ground inland.
Can machines get into steep, tight plots?
In most cases, yes. The smallest in our fleet are two 2-tonne mini diggers, chosen for gardens reached by narrow paths, steps or side passages, and a 1-tonne dumper moves spoil and stone across the site. At the site visit we measure the access and plan the dig in stages, so the right machine reaches every level of a terraced plot.
Can you build driveways and patios at holiday homes?
Yes. Holiday homes and second homes are a large part of the work in Carbis Bay. We agree access, keys and working hours in writing, plan the noisier stages around your bookings where possible, and keep you informed while you are away. Driveways and patios are laid with falls that keep surface water off the road and away from the house.
Do I need a parking or access permit for the work?
It depends on what sits on the public road. A skip, a materials drop or a machine left on the highway normally needs a permit from Cornwall Council, while work kept within your boundary usually does not. We look at this during the site visit, set out what is needed in the written quote and plan deliveries so the lane stays open.

Planning a Project in Carbis Bay?

Send us a few photographs of the plot and an idea of what you want to build. We will visit, look at the levels, the access and where the water goes, then put everything in writing. The visit and the quote cost nothing.
